Lens knowledge

For most lenses, it is obvious that the closer the object is to the lens, the higher the image. Therefore, due to the different object distance, the perspective distortion of the contour object will occur on the image plane. In many measurement applications, an imaging system that can produce parallel projection is needed to eliminate the perspective distortion and the measurement error caused by the perspective distortion, which requires telecentric lens. Now telecentric mirror has been widely used in the measurement and calibration of machine industry.



principle

The main light of telecentric lens is parallel to the optical axis. In a certain range, regardless of whether the object distance changes, the magnification remains unchanged. The entrance pupil (or exit pupil) of the system is at infinity. When the position of the object changes, the perspective error is very small. Therefore, the image height remains unchanged when the object distance changes within the range of depth of field. This kind of lens is very suitable for precision measurement.


Telecentric lenses are usually divided into three categories: object telecentric lenses, image telecentric lenses and bilateral telecentric lenses.


1. Object telecentric lens

The object telecentric lens aperture is located on the rear focal plane of the objective lens, the entry pupil is located at infinity, the object distance changes, the magnification remains unchanged, and the incident light is parallel to the optical axis, as shown in the figure.

2. Image square telecentric lens

 

The object telecentric lens aperture is located on the front focal plane of the objective lens, the exit pupil is located at infinity, the image plane changes, the magnification remains unchanged, and the outgoing main light is parallel to the optical axis.

3. Telecentric lens of both sides

 

Both telecentric lens apertures are located on the common focal plane (i.e. the rear focal plane of the front group and the front focal plane of the rear group), and the entrance pupil and exit pupil are located at infinity. Within a certain range, the magnification will not change regardless of changing the object distance or image distance.
